Bulldogs broke out the brooms this weekend

The 8u, 9u, 11u, 12u, and 13u all swept their doubleheaders this weekend.

The 8u Team 2031 started the action on Sunday morning earning their first two wins on the season by sweeping the Prince William Cardinals squad.  The youngest Bulldogs tallied 26 hits to go with their 26 runs scored over the two games.  Their game one, 14 to 1, win started from the first inning when they put up 5 runs.  Jackson, Will, Connor, Dylan and Ryan all racked up multiple hits on the game.  Ryan S. led the way at the plate with 3 RBI and Dylan and Will combined on the mound to throw four innings of one run ball.  The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead in game two, but the Bulldogs answered back immediately taking the lead for good by the second inning.  In this on James, Will, Dylan, Connor and Kieran all had multi-hit games – James, Dylan and Connor cashed in for 2 RBI each in the Bulldogs 12 to 4 victory.  Connor and James partnered on the mound, allowing 4 runs over 5 innings.  Team 2031 will match up wit Stars Baseball Rubin next Sunday.

The 9u Team 2030 evened their record with their second straight doubleheader sweep, this time against the Aldie Senators.  Game one was a rout as the Bulldogs used a 5-run third inning and a 9-run fifth inning to put away the Senators.  The Bulldogs racked up 21 hits on the game, led by Carter, Ashton, Lucas and Aiden who had 3 apiece. Ryan led the way with 3 RBI and 3 innings on the mound, giving up only 2 runs.  Lucas would finish the last 2 innings giving up only one more run.  Team 2030 will participate in a split doubleheader next weekend with games against the Potomac RiverDogs & the Falls Church Copperheads.

The 11u Team 2028 earned their first doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon against the Mount Vernon Mavericks in a pair of tight games.  The Bulldogs fell behind in game one in the top of the first but stormed back in the bottom of the frame putting up 7 runs.  The first inning onslaught was led by hits by Billy, Ryan, Ethan, Bryce and Charlie.  After trading runs in the second inning the Mavericks launched a comeback effort powered by a 3-run home run in the top of the 5th.  Leading by a run in the bottom of the 5th Billy tallied a second RBI on the game to plate an insurance run that the Bulldogs would need as they gave up a run in the top of the 6th as well but ultimately shut down the late comeback effort when Sam recorded a strikeout ending the game as a 9 to 8 win.  Following up a strong game one, Billy powered the Bulldogs in game two going 3 for 3 with a double and a home run earning 2 RBI.  Jack, Jefferson and Zack toed the rubber for the Bulldogs combining for 6 innings, giving up only 4 hits and 4 runs as the Bulldogs hung on again for the 5 to 4 win.  Team 2028 will match up with the Fielders Choice American 11u squad next Sunday.

The 12u Team 2027 also evened their record as well by recording a pair of Ws against the St. James.  In game one the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and would consistently put up crooked numbers in each of the 4 innings where they hit.  The big inning for the Bulldogs was the 3rd when they scored four runs powered by Benjamin, James & Carter who all tallied a RBI in the frame.  Jayden & Luke F. led the way for team 2027 at the plate with two hits each.  After the St. James pushed across 5 runs in the top of the 5th to make it a one-run game the Bulldogs answered with 3 in the bottom of the frame to make the score 13 to 9.  Carter took the mound in the top of the 5th putting the St. James down in order to end the game and secure the victory.  Game two was a much more lopsided affair as the Bulldogs put up 21 runs on 15 hits on the way to a 21 to 10 victory.  A number of Bulldogs had big games at the plate in this one.  Carter was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, Landon and Connor also had multi-hit, multi-RBI games.  The story of the morning was the long ball though.  The St. James would hit 5 home runs on the day and the Bulldogs responded with 4 of their own, all in game two.  Nate had the biggest bat for Team 2027 hitting two homers and tallying 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.  Landon and Jayden recorded the other two dingers for the Bulldogs.  Team 2027 will look to keep the power show going next weekend when they face off with the Arlington Storm Red team next Sunday.

Joining the tally of those who evened their record on the weekend the 13u Team 2026 won both games in a double header vs. Win Within Tribe 13U at South County Middle School.  In game one, Nicholas threw 5 complete innings scattering 3 hits and zero runs.  An offensive highlight was Nick's legit inside the park Home Run earning him 2 RBI to lead the Bulldogs for the game.  Alex closed out the game on the mound for a combined shutout and the Bulldogs won 6-0.  In game 2, Connor (2 K's) and Keagan (4 K's) pitched for the 7-2 win.  Connor and Keagan paired up on the mound in game two giving up only 2 runs and 4 hits to secure the victory.  Connor also checked in with 2 hits and 2 RBIs to help his own cause.

The 14u Team 2025 was shorthanded yet again this week and were unable to join their younger colleagues in the win column – though they did join in on the home run parade.  Team 2025 travelled up to D.C. to match up against the Win Within Metro Tribe.  The short-handed 14u Bulldogs (once again, only 8 regulars) had no quit in them today. Still, the team lost 6-5 and 10-0, despite a few stellar performances. 13U Bulldog phenom Brady made his 14u debut filling in for injured players and played a gold glove caliber left, center and right field. Charlie went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI on the day, including a double to the warning track on an 0-2 count. Game 1 starter Drew pitched 4 strong innings, striking out 5. Drew also went 3 for 5 on the day, including a NO DOUBT homer to right center field.

Overall a great weekend for the Bulldogs program!

GO Bulldogs!

The 14u Team 2025 started the weekend on Saturday afternoon.  They fell behind early in the match up and a 5 run rally in the 3rd inning wasn’t quite enough as they ultimately lost 12 to 5.  The big third inning was driven by a handful of Bulldogs as Parker, Johnson, Foster & Gurrola all drove in runs to tighten the game.  Dell’Omo was the lead offensive dog on the day, going 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Team 2025 next faces off against the NOVA Vipers on Tuesday night.

Mother’s Day itself was a busy day with an early start for many of our other Bulldogs teams.  The 9u Team 2030 was one of our 9:00am starts as they squared off against the Outlaws Select 9u team in Lorton.  Team 2030 earned their first two wins of the season coming away with 11 to 9 and 16 to 0 wins.  In game one the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead owing to a 7 run second inning.  On the game Lucas, Aiden, Clark & Elliot all tallied multiple hits with Lucas leading the way going 3 for 3.  Team 2030’s bats would stay hot in game two where they would tally 12 runs in the 4th inning.  In the frame Ashton, Clark, and Carter all singled, Ryan did so twice, and Lucas C. doubled twice to drive the offense.  The offense backed stellar pitching led by Adam who allowed only 2 hits over 3 innings.  He was relieved by Lucas C. who followed his offensive exploits with a shutout inning from the mound.  Team 2030 will next be in action next Sunday against the Aldie Senators.

Also starting the day with a 9:00am start was the 10 Team 2029 who used big innings in both games where they put up big, crooked numbers to secure their sweep against the Competitive Edge Swanson team.  In game one it was the second inning where the Bulldogs put up 8 runs to grab a lead they would not relinquish.  Johnny and Tony both doubled in the inning to go along with big hits by Shaun and Aiden.  Johnny would lead the Bulldogs in game one tallying 3 RBI in the 16 to 4 win.  The Bulldogs would also score 16 runs in game two on their way to a 16 to 8 win in the matinee.  They put up multiple runs in each of the first four innings, but it was the 7 run fourth inning that salted the game for Team 2029.  Johnny would again come up big in that inning notching an RBI but he was not alone as Tony, Braedon, Joaquin & Levi all joined the RBI parade.  Team 2029 will try to remain hot when they take on Team Virginia Mizuno in two weeks on the 23rd.

Our final 9:00am start was the 12u Team 2027 who took on the Potomac River Dogs Blue team for a Mother’s Day twin bill.  They secured the win in game one with a big 5th inning where they posted 7 runs to break a 5 to 5 tie and earn the 12 to 5 win. Luke, Jayden, Will & Evan all tallied RBI’s in the inning.  Connor, Nate, Benjamin & Evan all recorded multiple hits and Evan added a total of 4 stolen bases for the Bulldogs.  In Game two the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, putting up 5 runs in the first inning, highlighted by James who hit his first home run – a 2 run bomb to dead center.  The Riverdogs would come back to take the lead before the Bulldogs tied it at 7 in the bottom of the fifth.  The game would end in a 7 run tie.  Team 2027 will be back in action next Sunday against the St. James.

Our final Mother’s Day action saw the 8u Team 2031 take on the Shocker’s Baseball 8u team.  The Bulldogs fell behind early in both games and ultimately dropped both games.  The youngest Bulldogs only managed one run in game one, an RBI by Logan in the second inning.  The defense was strong though, committing no errors, Dylan led the team with 3 defensive put outs during the game.  Team 2031’s bats woke up in game two, but the comeback attempt, featuring a 4 run third inning ultimately fell short.    Henry was 2 for 2 with a run scored and Jackson recorded 3 RBI to lead the Bulldogs in game two.   Team 2031 will next match up against the Prince William Cardinals next Sunday.
