The Bulldogs completed another slate of games Sunday.

The 9u Team 2030 got things started for the Bulldogs program on Sunday morning hosting a split doubleheader against the D.C. Dynasty and the Falls Church Copperheads.  Game one turned out to be a pitchers’ duel that remained scoreless until the 5th inning when the Dynasty broke through for a run.  They would add one more in the 6th before a late rally effort by the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 6th was cut short after they tallied one run themselves.  Game two was also a tight affair, the Copperheads jumped out to a big early lead but the Bulldogs battled back putting some crooked numbers in the 3rd and the 5th.  The rally ended up coming up short as the Bulldogs would fall 9 to 7.  Owen & Elliot led the Bulldogs tallying 2 RBI each.

Next up the 13u Team 2026 played a pair against the Full Count Rockers.  They lost a barnburner of a game in the first of the doubleheader 10 to 11.  Bryce, Nick S., Alex & Nicholas all paced the Bulldogs in that effort with multi-hit performances.  Team 2026 came back in game two to earn the 6 to 4 victory behind solid team hitting, baserunning and defense.

As the weather warmed up in the afternoon the 14u Team 2025 matched up with the MVP Terps Purple squad.  The Bulldogs were reduced to just 8 eligible players just before game time due to myriad injuries amongst their roster.  They got some help from the Parker family when younger brother Jayden, a 12u team 2027 player, stepped in to replace older brother Boston for the games.  The Bulldogs jumped out to early leads in both games tallying 2 runs in the first in game one and three in game two.  Unfortunately, they would ultimately drop both games as the Terps battled back.  Johnson led the way for the Bulldogs in game one going 2 for 2.  Dell’Omo lead the way for the Bulldogs on the hill in game two throwing 5 strong innings giving up only 2 runs.  Foster registered the big hit for the Bulldogs driving in 2 RBI in the first inning.  The days defensive highlight came from Charlie who delivered a 5-5-3 double play in the top of the 7th of game 2.

Next up, the 8u Team 2031 headed out to Leesburg to take on the Loudon Aces.  Game one was a back and forth affair.  The Aces jumped out to an early lead but the Bulldogs matched it in the top of the 2nd.  Ultimately, a late come back effort scoring one run in the fifth came up short falling by a 7 to 5 score.  Game 2 was a more lopsided affair in favor the Aces as their bats warmed up with the weather.  Connor, Will, and Jackson led the way for the Bulldogs.  Connor was 2 for 3 and Will & Jackson both tallied 2 RBI in the game.  Connor and Jackson stayed hot in the second game recording doubles in game two as well.

Also battling the heat in hosting Wild Bill at Bonnie Brae Elementary School was the 10u Team 2029.  A late comeback effort by the Bulldogs fell short.  They tallied 5 runs in the 4th inning but still came up short 9 to 5.  Team 2029 turned things around in game two.  The Bulldogs jumped way out in front putting up a 9 spot in the 3rd inning.  Wild Bill wasn’t done, but the Bulldogs were able to put the brakes on a big rally in the bottom of the 6th by Wild Bill in time to preserve a 13 to 11 victory.  Shaun led the way on the mound for the Bulldogs in game two throwing 3 innings and giving up only 1 run.  Shaun had a good day at the plate as well driving in 2 runs to join teammates Tony & Levi to lead the team with 2 RBI a piece.

The 11u Team 2028 was scheduled to host local rivals the NOVA Royals Blue today but the games were postponed due to a COVID exposure concern.  Fortunately, owing to the fact that the team has adhered to the COVID protocols established by NVTBL and local health officials, Team 2028 received the all clear from the county to resume baseball activities this coming week.
